Oslo will get a new fun building, which doesn't happen very often. It is now rising on Volvat, where the old Frøn school was, next to the Oslo light works. Architect Geir Grung designed it for Gustav A. Ring. And the name of the client has inspired the architect to create a circular building. Or, as he himself expresses it: I don't like illuminated advertisements outside on buildings, here I have found a shape that symbolizes the company's name. But it's true that you don't often have the opportunity to do that.

The building is a combination building, where laboratories, industry and administration are combined, it will be a modern headquarters for a company that is growing strongly and expanding on the world market. It will be on two floors with a lower floor plus a garage in the basement where customers can park and where there are loading ramps where the goods are taken out. In total, there will be 4,000 square meters of floor space and the building is costing NOK 4 million fully furnished. It is being driven up at American speed, within 275 days it should be fully completed, that is to say by 1 November.

The offices are laid out according to new methods, there are large open halls with an inner core where, in addition to archives and safes, you get a canteen, an assembly hall and a conference room that can be combined with the hall, explains architect Grung. The first floor will have profiled glass on the outside, a new glass that is being used for the first time here in Norway. On the outside of the floors, asun screen made of prefabricated concrete elements, these hover around 1 meter from the building and protect against high sun, while low sun lets in so you can take advantage of its heating effect in winter and autumn. The building gets its own effect by using a completely new surface treatment of the concrete, it is ground in the same way that it is cast so that it has a white, completely smooth and matt surface.

The building is designed so that it is built on two floors. You can already see the form and in popular speech they are already call it Ringhuset.

"The building is based on the open office principle. The bosses sit closest to the core building, and the officials in the outer sector in one large room. In the middle is a conference room, canteen and dining room.

The round shape represents a very affordable solution, as the elements are mass-produced using a steel mold. The surface is aerated concrete. By sanding off the outer layer of concrete mud without getting down to the stone grains, you get a very robust and smooth surface. The wall itself is assembled from straight pieces; it is a light wooden wall with eternit parapet and steel plates on the inside to which the heating elements are attached. The glass is fixed in the top and bottom frame. There are only four opening windows on each floor, and only one aluminum clamping strip between the window units. The window construction is thus very reasonable.

Profilit glass is used on the lower floor. The entrance doors are made of tempered glass. The building is currently a combined office and industrial building. However, it is also calculated for the industrial production of electronic equipment. Therefore, it has been designed so that you can easily switch between office function and industrial use.
