Njål R. Eide was born in 1931 in Sandnes and has become an internationally recognized designer of around 40 cruise vessels for foreign and Norwegian-owned shipping companies. He was born into optimistic modernism and witnessed the Norwegian so-called oil fairy-tale from the inside. He was engaged as an architect in the production of the first residential platforms during the development of the North Sea.
