Christian Frederik Jacob von Munthe av Morgenstierne

Morgenstierne (1880-1967) was an norwegian architect from Kristiania. First he was educated as a mason, but was later student of Hermann Schimer at Statens Kunst og Håndverksskole 1895-98. From 1898-1900 Morgenstierne was a student at Technische Hochscule i Berlin, before he later took an exam in the US at the university in Champaign, Illinois. He stayed in the US working for several offices, mainly in Chicago, before he left for Berlin after 5 years. Morgenstierne worked in Berlin for 3,5 years before returning to Kristiania in 1909.
Morgenstierne was very enganged in the housing debate, and the office made an important contribution to social housing. One of the goals was to have healthier homes, through united planning and execution. Morgenstierne had travel abroad to find inspiration for european and american models for housing politics. In 1913 Morgenstierne was one of the founders of NFB (Norsk forening for boligreformer). The union was non-political, and was an important drive-force behind Egne-hjem movement (Arctanderbyen). The right to live was a human right, and healthy homes and upgrades of the working class was important to acheive equality.
